The primary responsibilities of the Direct Support Professional (DSP) is for the care necessary to meet the physical, medical, emotional, educational, recreational, and social needs of all individuals in the programs. The DSP is responsible for the day-to-day operation, general up-keep, and the required direct care of individuals of the program. They are also responsible to ensure that the services provided are in accordance with agency standards, Department of Children and Families (DCF), Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assist individuals in acquiring skills which will enable them to become more independent
- Provide direct physical assistance and care to individuals who require: positioning, transfers, wheelchair securement, mobility, toileting, undergarment changes, special food preparation, feeding, and other individuals needs as well
- Implement individual service logs and implementation plans in accordance with State and Federal guidelines, and The Arc’s policies
- Responsible for implementing behavior programs consistently, including behavior charting as applicable
- Be patient and caring to enhance the quality of life for the individuals we serve
